Lasagna Compost
November 23, 2024 @ 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Description:
Saturday November 23, there will be a gardening workshop to show you how to make lasagna compost. In this workshop, you will help build compost that is made like a lasagna. We place a layer of horse manure, a layer of leaves from trees that have just fallen, and a layer of old compost, and we repeat to the top in thickness exactly like a lasagna.
The workshop will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m
Steps to Composting Tree Leaves by Layering with Manure Like Lasagna:
- Pick up the leaves
- Get Horse Manure Pile
- Make current year Lasagna and use last year Lasagna
- Like a Lasagna keep layering Manure/Leafs till the top
- Layer a row of tree leaves
- Layer a row of horse manure to cover leaves
- Watering as needed based on dryness of leaves
- Continue layering until all your leaves are covered
- Bring your pile up high as it will shrink as it decomposes
- Over the next 12 months worms & friends will break down leafs to compost
- Use the Lasagna compost that you prepared last fall
- Distribute the compost in the rows where you plant vegies
- In the spring, plant your pumpkin on the pile to keep weeds off
- Make sure it is wet, we use the water from our aquaponic!
- Have Fun!
